Whatcom PUD Solar Demonstration Project

Under the Goals and Strategies of Whatcom PUD’s 2025 Strategic Plan, Clean and Renewable Energy (p. 10) includes Strategy RE2 – Undertake a demonstration project of the use of alternative clean and renewable energy technologies.

The PUD recently installed a solar panel array on its maintenance building, located off Trigg Road in Ferndale.

• It is a 30.74 kW system, with 58 panels (530 Watts each), estimated to produce 32 MWH per year.
• The system was installed by Western Solar and put into service on September 7, 2023.
