The Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) approved $843,750 in low-interest
loans and $2.4 million in grans for economic developmentand public infrastructure development targeting business growth, job creation and broadband development in four counties.  Recipients were announced on November 18, 2021.

Whatcom PUD was awarded a $50,000 grant for a Broadband Mapping and Feasibility Study. This project
consists of a feasibility study to assess the potential to bring highspeed broadband to Whatcom County.  CERB funds were matched by $12,500 in local resources.

The PUD has been working with the Port of Bellingham on building a countywide fiber optics program.  General Manager Stephan Jilk said “the study will help us define the next steps in working with the Port at creating a sustainable business model on building and then operating the system.”  He added that the grant opens the door for other funding opportunities as PUD and Port move forward.

The PUD would like to thank Chris Walker and Claire Ward at NoaNet for their help on the project to date.  The PUD will be working with them on this study.
