Public Utility District No. 1 of Whatcom County (Whatcom PUD) Commissioners have issued the formal Notice of Vacancy for filling the District 1 position on the PUD Board of Commissioners.

This Notice of Vacancy provides 15 days’ notice of the nominees following nominees by the Commission for Whatcom PUD: Eddy Ury, Todd Lagestee, and Andrew Reding.

This Notice also commences an open period for registered voters who reside within the boundaries of Whatcom PUD to nominate additional names for consideration. Residents can submit names for additional nominee by emailing General Manager Chris Heimgartner at or by mailing such nominees to:

Nominations will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024.

Nominees should submit an application by the deadline, the instructions for which can be found below. After the notice period, the Commissioners may appoint a nominee who resides in District No,.1 or schedule interviews from a selection of the nominees to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term, which runs until the certification of the next general election in November of 2024.

The position of Whatcom PUD Commissioner pays a salary of $3,238 per month, plus a per diem of $161 per day for meetings attended on behalf of the District to a maximum annual compensation of $61,396, pursuant to RCW 54.12.080. Commissioners are also eligible for group insurance for themselves, their immediate family, and dependents.
