Option Land Use: Forest to Urban/Residential Conversion

Definition

The conversion of forest land to urban/residential uses would involve clearing trees and roots and building houses and support infrastructure.

Benefits Fish Habitat:
  • The conversion of forest land to urban/residential use is generally not a good thing for fish habitat.

Water Quantity:
  • If high density and high water demanding infrastructure were built to replace the forest lands, less water could be available for new or expanded uses of water for instream and/or out-of-stream purposes.

  • If forest lands are replaced by low density housing and low water demanding infrastructure, more water could be provided for new or expanded uses of water for instream and/or out-of-stream purposes.

Water Quality:
  • The conversion of forest land to urban/residential use is generally not a good thing for water quality.

Instream Flows:
  • The conversion of forest land to urban/residential use is generally not a good thing for instream flow.
