The PUD's Water Customers and Facilities

The PUD provides non-potable water to six Cherry Point industrial customers, the City of Ferndale, and 21 irrigation customers making it the second largest water producer in Whatcom and Skagit Counties.

The PUD operates two water treatment facilities. The function of the plants is to provide primary treatment, which lowers turbidity levels before conveying the water to its customers.  A minimal amount of chlorinating is done to prevent algae growth in the settling basins.  The source water for these non-potable water supplies is the Nooksack River.

A regional source protection plan has been developed jointly with the City of Lynden, as required by Washington State Department of Health, for use by surface water users in the Nooksack Basin that utilize the Nooksack River as a source water supply.

In addition to its non-potable water customers, the PUD maintains a potable water system for the Grandview-Northgate Industrial Park.  Source water for this system is supplied by groundwater pumped from one well located in the Northgate Industrial Park.  A Consumer Confidence Report has been prepared in accordance with Federal Safe Drinking Water Act requirements that describes the monitoring program and results associated with the Grandview-Northgate Industrial Park system.
