From the General Manager...

Hello and welcome to the Public Utility District No. 1 of Whatcom County.  The PUD #1 of Whatcom County was formed by a vote of the citizens of Whatcom County in 1937.  The original desire of the citizens was to replace an investor-owned electric utility with a publicly-owned, not-for-profit electric utility. Several years later the PUD was able to obtain energy which allowed the building of the first oil refinery at Cherry Point.  In the 1960's the PUD went into the water business to provide water service to a newly built aluminum processing plant.  As commerce in the area began to grow, the PUD expanded their services to provide water and electricity to more industrial and municipal customers.

PUD No. 1 of Whatcom County is proud of its tradition of supporting the electric and water utilities of Whatcom County industries and is involved in environmental and conservation topics surrounding these needs.

We are always interested in hearing what you have to say.  Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or comments, or would like more information about our administrative services, projects, facilities and operations, and other programs.

Sincerely,

Stephan Jilk
General Manager
